Normal Nerve Cell
Nerve cells, also known as neurons, are the basic building blocks of the nervous system. In a normal nerve cell, signals are transmitted efficiently through the axon, which is the long, thin projection that extends from the cell body.
Nerve with Sclerosis
In a nerve cell affected by sclerosis, the axon is damaged and may become hardened, causing the transmission of signals to be disrupted or slowed down. This can result in a range of symptoms, including muscle weakness, difficulty with coordination and balance, and problems with vision and speech.
