Ball and Socket Joint

The ball and socket joint is a synovial joint. It consists of a spherical bone head that fits into a cup-shaped socket, held in place by ligaments and tendons. This type of joint is found in the hip and shoulder and allows backward, forward, sideways, and rotating movements.
