Cis face
The cis face is the side of the Golgi apparatus nearest to the endoplasmic reticulum and receives vesicles from it.
Trans face
The trans face is the side of the Golgi apparatus that sends vesicles off to other locations within the cell. It is also the side that is furthest from the endoplasmic reticulum.
Cisternae
Cisternae are flattened membrane vesicles found in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. They are an integral part of the packaging and modification processes of proteins occurring in the Golgi apparatus.
Transport vesicles
Transport vesicles are membrane bound vesicles that transport proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum to the golgi apparatus in the cell.
Secretory vesicles
Secretory vesicles are membrane-bound vesicles that transport secretory proteins, such as hormones or neurotransmitters.
