Macrophage

A type of white blood cell that surrounds and kills microbes, removes dead cells, and stimulates the action of other immune system cells. Present in all vertebrate species and is vital in host protection and homeostasis.

Bacteria

This is interpreted as a foreign body by the organism's immune system, with the production of antibodies to attack the microbe.
