Light Scattering

Pure H2O is boiled out of its contaminants in the distillation process. The light disperses so little as it moves through the distilled water beaker that the beam is hardly visible.

Colloidal Light Scattering

A colloid is a mixture in which one substance is divided into minute particles and dispersed throughout a second substance. The colloidal milk suspension to the right has led to complete light dispersion, illuminating the beaker.
