Gold - the noblest of all metals

Gold coins have been used as ancient currency, and their chemical inactivity meant that even after centuries they are to be found in as good a condition as they were when they were in use. Gold is tough to melt, and an acidic mixture called Aqua Regia (en. Royal water) is usually needed to dissolve it.
