Optical Prisms

These solid glass optics are ground and polished into geometrical and optically significant shapes. Dispersive prisms, usually triangular prisms, are used to separate the different wavelengths (the rainbow) of an incident light beam.

White light is a mixture of all visible spectrum wavelengths (six basic colors) arranged in a specific order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. Each ray of color is deviated by the glass of the prism by a different amount.
