Mechanical advantage

The mechanical advantage is a number that tells us how many times a simple machine multiplies the effort force. Mechanical advantage is the ratio of the output force to the input force. The larger the advantage, the easier it will be to lift the weight.

Pulley system

A pulley is a simple machine used to lift or lower heavy objects. A pulley system's mechanical advantage (MA) equals the number of ropes supporting the movable load. The side where the rope is pulled is called the effort, and the weight being lifted is called the load.
